The delegates of the BRICS countries had a high-level conference on Tuesday, during which they decided to deepen and extend multilayered cooperation in the subject of climate change, according to the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.

Under the chairmanship of Chinese Minister of Ecology and Environment Huang Runqiu, delegates from five partner countries – Brazil, China, India, Russia, and South Africa – gathered digitally to discuss climate change mitigation strategies.

“National approaches to climate change adaptation were discussed at a high level meeting of the BRICS countries.

Following the meeting, the countries adopted a joint statement, where the participants confirmed their intention to strengthen and expand areas of cooperation in the field of climate change,” the ministry said in a statement.

Collaboration was considered at the national and local levels, as well as in the industrial and entrepreneurial realms. The delegations also agreed to work together to promote low-carbon green growth research, according to the statement.

The BRICS environment ministers will meet on May 20, according to the announcement.
