Thu 16 September 2021:

After receiving information about a possible threat to a synagogue, German police arrested four people, including a 16-year-old boy, on Thursday.

Late Wednesday, police increased up security around a synagogue in Hagen, a town of 200,000 people on the outskirts of Germany’s Ruhr industrial region in the west.

The warning came on Yom Kippur, a Jewish holiday during which observant Jews keep nighttime vigils in synagogues.

Police in Hagen announced on Thursday that they had arrested four persons and searched several buildings as part of their investigation into the threat.

In 2019, a right-wing extremist opened fire on a synagogue in the eastern German town of Halle, killing two bystanders. The police were then reprimanded for arriving late to the scene, but they soon apprehended the perpetrator, who is now serving a life term for the killings.
