Fri 11 September 2020:

LONDON, ENGLAND- A memorial to former Prime Minister Winston Churchill in Westminster, central London, was defaced again on Thursday, Sep. 10.

Protesters wrote “racist” on Churchill’s memorial, which was previously targeted by demonstrators during anti-racism protests back in June.

Police arrived at the square and inspected the memorial carefully.

Amid continued protests over the killing of George Floyd in police custody, historical monuments in both the US and Europe were targeted due to their links to the West’s history of slavery and colonialism.

Protesters tore down some statues or spray-painted anti-racism slogans on the memorials.

Police took the statues under protection after such incidents.

Activists in the UK previously published a list of 60 people linked to the country’s long history of slavery including former Prime Minister Winston Churchill, slave trader Edward Colston, slave trader Robert Milligan, and Cecil Rhodes.

Protesters demanded the removal of their statues during anti-racism protests.
