Mauritius challenges UK claim on Chagos Islands at UN court

The International Court of Justice on Monday began hearing Mauritius’ case against the UK’s claim over the Chagos Islands in the Indian Ocean. The UN court will hear testimonies from 22 countries over the UK’s territorial claims over the islands, which it calls the British Indian Ocean Territory. Mauritius claims the UK unlawfully took over the islands in 1965.
