The Kyiv Independent wrote in a tweet, “The Chief Intelligence Department of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense said that Ukraine has killed Russian Major General Vitaly Gerasimov near Kharkiv.” Gerasimov was a senior military officer who participated in the Second Chechen War and was awarded a medal for the “capture of Crimea”.

Major General Vitaly Gerasimov played a key role in Russia’s occupation of Crimea in 2014. He was also awarded a medal for the annexation of Crimea. According to Ukraine’s defense ministry, he fought alongside Russian forces in Syria and Chechnya. However, there has been no comment from Russia on his death. Major General Vitaly Gerasimov was the first deputy commander of the 41st Army of the Central Military District of Russia.

Nearly two weeks after the Russian offensive, Ukrainian forces, with the help of Western countries, managed to block the advance of their enemies. However, Russian President Vladimir Putin has made it clear that no power in the world can stop him and his goal.
