Fri 12 January 2024:

Lucara Diamond, a diamond exploration and mining firm, announced on Wednesday the discovery of a 166-carat Type IIa gem from Botswana’s Karowe Mine.

According to the Canadian-headquartered company, it is its first large discovery in 2024. The diamond is the 328th stone over 100 carats since the company started mining in 2012.

William Lamb, Lucara chief executive officer, said “Lucara is pleased to announce the ongoing recovery of large, high-quality diamonds from the Karowe Mine. This diamond is the 328th stone over 100 carats since we commenced mining in 2012. This latest recovery further supports the economic rationale for investing in the underground expansion project that will extend mine life to at least 2040.”

Lucara Diamond is the 100-percent owner of Karowe Diamond Mine, in north-central Botswana, about 512 km from Gaborone, the capital of Botswana.
