AFFORDABLE INDONESIAN MADE COVID-19 RAPID TEST TOOL READY TO HIT THE MARKET

LOMBOK, INDONESIA – JUNE 24: Workers at the GORA Bumi Hepatika Laboratory in Mataram city, Indonesian province of West Nusa Tenggara strived to produce COVID-19 affordable rapid test equipment.

The research, named RI-GHA Covid-19, was led by Professor Mulyanto, the head of the lab.

The name stands for the Republic of Indonesia, Gajah Mada University, Hepatic Laboratory and Airlangga University, the collaborators of the research.
In this collaboration project, Hepatika Laboratory is in charge of producing, while Gajah Mada and Airlangga University conduct validation tests.

Based on the validation tests results, Mulyanto said the test tool has reliable capability and on a par with the foreign mad ones.

According to plan, the rapid test tool would be ready to hit the market on July and would be sold at for Rp. 75.000.Thousands (USD 5.29) of packages have been ordered by several institutions.

RI-GHA Covid-19 was designed as simple as possible so that everyone can easily do their own test.

The selling price of this rapid test would possibly be cheaper if only the raw material can be produced domestically. Currently, some raw materials were still imported from China.
Mulyanto said innovation of the affordable rapid test were part of efforts to build national independence.

He hoped that other innovations would be created as the result of pandemic handling experience across the world.
