Mon 27 December 2021:
New Delhi: BJP MP Hema Malini on Sunday said she hopes that after Ayodhya and Kashi, her constituency Mathura will also get a grand temple and cited the Kashi Vishwanath corridor.
“After the restoration of Ram Janmabhoomi and Kashi, naturally Mathura is also very important,” Hema Malini told reporters at Indore in Madhya Pradesh on Sunday, December 19.
“Being the MP of Mathura, which is the birthplace of Lord Krishna who is the symbol of love and affection, I will say that there should be a grand temple. A temple is already there and can be beautified like Modi ji (Prime Minister Narendra Modi) developed Kashi Vishwanath corridor and the river Ganga can be seen directly from the temple,” she said.
“This change (renovation and redevelopment of Kashi Vishwanath) was very difficult. This shows his (Modi’s) farsightedness. This will also happen in Mathura,” she added.
The MP’s words come amidst growing communalisation in Mathura, where right-wing Hindutva groups have begun a stir surrounding what they believe is Krishna’s “actual birthplace”, which they have claimed is inside a mosque close to a prominent temple in the city, as The Wire has reported.
In 2020, a civil suit was filed in a Mathura court seeking to reclaim a site that was described as the birthplace of Krishna. The suit follows a similar set of arguments as those used by Hindu groups to claim the site of the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya.
