ANOTHER NEURALINK BRAIN IMPLANT COMING SOON, ELON MUSK SAYS

Elon Musk, founder of Neuralink, revealed plans to implant a second human patient with the company’s brain chip device within the next week. Musk stated during a broadcast on social media platform X that the company aims to have devices implanted in a “high single digits” number of patients by the end of the year.

Musk and Neuralink executives highlighted the potential of the brain chip device for treating conditions like paralysis and memory loss. They also discussed improvements to avoid setbacks experienced during the first implantation on Noland Arbaugh from Arizona.

Musk emphasized the long-term vision of merging human and digital intelligence to mitigate potential risks of artificial intelligence. He mentioned that Neuralink’s goal is to enhance human capabilities, describing plans to address issues such as electrode threads retracting from brain tissue.

Improvements include eliminating an air pocket that may have caused thread retraction and placing the threads more accurately within the brain’s folds in future surgeries. The team also discussed upgrading older models of the device for patients.

Musk assured that Neuralink prioritizes the welfare of research animals, stating, “We really do everything we can to maximize the welfare of the animals.”
