Sun 14 December 2025:
At least 16 people died, while 40 remained in the hospital after a shooting at Bondi Beach in Sydney, New South Wales (NSW) police said on Sunday.
“More information will be made available soon,” the police said on US-based social media company on X.
NSW Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon declared the mass shooting to be “a terrorist incident.”
NSW Premier Chris Minns said it was “designed to target the Jewish community.”
According to an NSW police statement, “a man believed to be one of the shooters” is among the dead. The second alleged shooter is in critical condition, it added.
Among the wounded are two cops.
The statement said that “a number of suspicious items located in the vicinity are being examined by specialist officers, and an exclusion zone is in place.”
It added: “An extensive crime scene has been established, and inquiries are now underway. There have been NO reports of any other incidents in Sydney connected to this incident.”
A man was shot twice while tackling and disarming Australian gunman. The brave 43-year-old fruit shop owner grabbed the rifle of the gunman that shot multiple people.
Australian media reported that the individual, who intervened in a shooting attack on a beach in Sydney and disarmed one of the suspects, was a man named Ahmed al Ahmed.

Police say attackers were father and son
Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon has told a press conference that a 50-year-old gunman who was killed at the scene was the father of a 24-year-old attacker who is currently in critical but stable condition.
Lanyon said authorities were not looking for a third person.
The police commissioner added that the 50-year-old man had six firearms licenses and that six firearms were found at the scene.
“Ballistics and forensic investigation will determine whether those six firearms are the six that were licensed to that man,” he said.
Police say two active explosive devices found at the scene
Lanyon, the police commissioner, has told journalists that two active “rudimentary” explosive devices were found at the scene of the shooting at Bondi Beach.
“I’m very glad that those devices were not activated,” he said.
Lanyon said police had spoken to the attackers’ family but refused to “speculate” on the motives behind their actions.
NSW Premier Minns says he will consider gun reform
Chris Minns has said that he will not hesitate to change the Australian state’s gun laws if needed, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.
Asked whether he would consider changes to legislation following the shooting at a news conference in Sydney alongside PM Albanese, Minns said the “short answer is yes”.
The Sydney Morning Herald quoted Minns as saying: “We’re looking at it right now. We’re in the early stages of this investigation. NSW Police need to provide all the details of this inquiry to the government, but I made it clear last night that we’ll take every step we possibly can to keep our community safe.”
