News Desk World

Wed 17 July 2024:

US President Joe Biden is behind Republican nominee Donald Trump in all seven major swing states, according to a poll released Tuesday. The YouGov poll for the Times/SAY24 shows Biden trailing in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin from July 4-12, the week following the presidential debate and prior to the attempted assassination of Trump.

The SAY24 project, a collaboration between Stanford, Arizona State, and Yale universities, indicates Biden’s declining support in every polled swing state since March, except for Arizona where he remains 7% behind Trump among registered voters. Previously leading in three states, Biden has seen his support erode over the past four months.

The closest races are in Michigan and Pennsylvania, where Biden trails by 1 and 3 points, respectively. Trump has the largest leads in Arizona, Wisconsin, and Nevada, with a 5% advantage in the latter two states.

Voter sentiment about the economy remains grim, with at least two-thirds describing it as fair or poor, and an increasing number seeing conditions worsening rather than improving.

In a sign of Biden’s potential negative impact on his party, the YouGov poll shows Democratic Senate candidates leading their Republican opponents in every swing state, some by as much as 12 points.
