Thu 17 March 2022:
US President Joe Biden’s reference to Russian leader Vladimir Putin as a “war criminal” over his military operation in Ukraine is “unacceptable and unforgivable,” the Kremlin has said.
“We believe such rhetoric to be unacceptable and unforgivable on the part of the head of a state, whose bombs have killed hundreds of thousands of people around the world,” said Putin’s spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, according to the state news agencies TASS and Ria Novosti.
Peskov was responding to a question about an earlier comment made by Biden with regard to Russia’s military operation in Ukraine.”I think he is a war criminal,” Biden told reporters earlier.
Biden also authorized on Wednesday $800 million in new assistance for Ukraine to bolster its forces in the face of the ongoing war. The new aid package includes Stinger anti-aircraft systems, Javelin anti-tank missiles, light anti-armor weapons, anti-armor systems, tactical unmanned aerial systems as well as rifles and ammunition.
Moscow will stop ‘Russophobic’ plot against Russia, claims Medvedev
Moscow will stop the West’s Russophobic plot to tear the country apart, one of president Vladimir Putin’s closest allies said on Thursday.
Dmitry Medvedev, who served as president from 2008 to 2012 and is now deputy secretary of Russia’s security council, said the US had stoked “disgusting” Russophobia in an attempt to force Russia on its knees and then rip it apart.
“It will not work – Russia has the might to put all of our brash enemies in their place,” Medvedev said.
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which began Feb. 24, has drawn international condemnation, led to financial sanctions on Moscow, and spurred an exodus of global firms from Russia.
At least 726 civilians have been killed and 1,174 injured in Ukraine since the beginning of the war.
More than 3 million refugees have fled to neighboring countries, according to the UN.
