Mon 26 December 2022:

Michael Bloomberg, the company’s owner, posted a statement from Bloomberg LP spokesman Ty Trippet on social media stating that the company had no plans to acquire Dow Jones or the Washington Post.

Axios, a US news outlet, said on Friday that the American media tycoon was considering buying the Washington Post or the Wall Street Journal’s parent company Dow Jones to raise the profile of his business.

“There have been no conversations with anyone or either organization about an acquisition,” Ty Trippet said in an official response to the recent media reports and speculation.

Axios cited a source familiar with Bloomberg’s thinking as saying that the billionaire saw Dow Jones as the ideal fit because it would give him control over such big-name financial media as the Wall Street Journal, Barron’s and MarketWatch, whereas Jeff Bezos’s Washington Post would amplify his news agency’s US government coverage and create a potential rival to the New York Times.

In October, Rupert Murdoch started a process that could reunite his media empire, News Corp and Fox Corp (FOXA.O), nearly a decade after the companies split.
