Boris Johnson, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, appears to be going through a hard patch right now. Every other day, he is reprimanded for some other issue.
Not only that, but the prime minister has been losing allies as well. Munira Mirza is one such name.
Mirza, who is praised for her intellect and character, has quit over Johnson’s false claim that Keir Starmer held back attempts to prosecute Jimmy Savile.
She had previously led the PM’s office’s efforts to inflame the culture war. In protest of the low politics, she has now quit.
Mirza was also a key figure in the severely criticized Downing Street report on racial inequality, which downplayed structural reasons.
Johnson’s prior views were also defended by the lawmaker, who worked with him for 14 years. She had dismissed the outrage over his 2018 newspaper piece, in which he compared Muslim women in burqas to letter boxes and bank robbers, as “hysteria.”
Her absence will undoubtedly be felt. She began her career as an arts adviser and later became the deputy mayor for education and culture.
Mirza, sometimes known as “Boris’s brain”, is far from being a lifelong Conservative, having once been a communist activist.
Munira Mirza was born in Oldham, Greater Manchester to Pakistani parents. Her father worked as a factory worker and her mother was an Urdu tutor.
Describing herself as an ‘museum junkie’, she spent her early career working in the arts, spending a brief stint at the Tate.
Johnson held Mirza in great regard. She was also complimented by the Prime Minister as a “powerful nonsense detector.”
