BRITISH JOURNALIST SAMI HAMDI SET FOR RELEASE FROM US IMMIGRATION DETENTION, FAMILY SAYS

The U.S. government has agreed to release British Muslim journalist Sami Hamdi, Sky news reported

The family of Sami Hamdi, the British journalist being held by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), is to be released, his family have said.

The 35-year-old was detained by US immigration officers at San Francisco International Airport on 26 October.

After his arrest, a spokeswoman for the US Department of Homeland Security said his visa had been revoked as “those who support terrorism and undermine American national security will not be allowed to work or visit this country”.

But on Monday evening, his family announced he is due to be freed.

The family of Sami said in a statement: “Alhamdulillah, good news. The government has agreed to release Sami. He will be able to return home soon insha’Allah. Additional details forthcoming.”

Zionist smear campaign

Sami Hamdi was arrested after a sustained campaign by American-based pro-Israel activists on X who attempted to smear Hamdi as a “jihadi” and “terror supporter” who posed some kind of threat to US national security.

It was also being alleged that Sami Hamdi was a member of or supporter of the Islamic group, the Muslim Brotherhood.

Laura Loomer and Amy Mek, notorious far-right social media influencers who boast over a million followers on X between them, have posted relentlessly about Hamdi ahead of the arrest.

After the news broke of Hamdi’s “abduction”, Mek and Loomer began celebrating online, claiming credit for the arrest.

“BREAKING — WE DID IT AMERICA! SAMI HAMDI – HAS BEEN ARRESTED AND WILL BE DEPORTED! Sami Hamdi — a foreign national who repeatedly used U.S. stages to legitimise and normalise jihadi networks — has reportedly been detained by ICE in San Francisco and is slated for deportation. This is a major victory for America and a MAJOR Blow to the Jihadi network in America!” Mek posted on X.

Sami, who is Muslim and lives in London, accepted an offer to leave the US voluntarily, according to the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) statement.

The council said in a statement that the immigration charging document in Hamdi’s case “alleged only a visa overstay – after the government revoked his visa without cause and without prior notice – and never identified any criminal conduct or security grounds”.

CAIR added: “This agreement establishes that the government does not consider Hamdi a danger to the community or to national security.”

“It is this simple: Sami never should have spent a single night in an ICE cell. His only real ‘offence’ was speaking clearly about Israel’s genocidal war crimes against Palestinians,” Hussam Ayloush, CEO of CAIR’s California chapter, said.

Since January, the Trump administration has pursued a sweeping crackdown on immigration, including increasing social media vetting, revoking visas for people it claims praised the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, and deporting student visa and green card holders who have voiced support for Palestinians and criticised Israel’s conduct in the Gaza war.
