Tue 02 May 2023:
Due to listeria concerns, thousands of Cadbury products are being withdrawn from outlets all throughout the UK.According to Sky News, customers who purchased items from these batches have been advised not to consume them and to return them for a refund.
According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), listeria infection is a type of listeriosis that is typically brought on by consuming food that has been tainted with the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes. People over 65 and pregnant women are most at risk because the bacteria attack the immune system.
Customers are urged by the UK’s Food Standards Agency (FSA) to check the product expiration dates on their website.
The agency has issued alert about Crunchie, Daim, Flake, Dairy Milk Buttons and Dairy Milk Chunks 75g chocolate desserts, all sold individually at supermarkets, Sky News reported.
The ‘use-by’ dates of concern are May 17 for the Crunchie and Flake desserts, and May 18 for the rest.
Metro said that supermarket chain Muller is recalling the batches of the chocolates after an alarm was raised about contamination.
“Muller has taken the precautionary step of recalling some batches of various Cadbury branded dessert products because of the possible presence of Listeria monocytogenes,” the FSA said in a statement.
The following Cadbury products may be affected:
- Daim Chocolate Dessert – use by 18 May
- Crunchie Chocolate Dessert – use by 17 May
- Flake Chocolate Dessert – use by 17 May
- Dairy Milk Buttons Chocolate Dessert – use by 18 May
- Dairy Milk Chunks Chocolate Dessert – use by 18 May
- Cadbury Heroes Chocolate Dessert (six pack) – use by 18 May
The symptoms of listeriosis are similar to flu. They include fever, muscle ache or pain, chills, feeling or being sick and diarrhoea, as per the CDC.
The health organization added that the listeria infection’s signs and symptoms differ based on the person afflicted and the area of the body affected.
Rarely, the infection may be more serious and result in life-threatening complications like meningitis. A pregnant woman who contracts listeriosis runs the risk of having a miscarriage.
