Tue 14 June 2022:
Scores of people were injured in an explosion at a chemical factory in southern Iran on Tuesday, according to state television.
According to the source, the blast occurred on Monday evening in Firouzabad, Fars province, around 770 kilometers (480 miles) south of Tehran, due to a leak from an ammonium tank. The fire was soon put out by firefighters, according to the report.
According to Vahid Hosseini, the province health department’s chief, 114 of the 133 injured, largely factory workers, who were transferred to local hospitals were later released following treatment.
Authorities reopened a neighboring major route that had been closed following the explosion on Tuesday.
A fire broke out in a warehouse full of motor oil and hazardous items at an Iranian Revolutionary Guard base in the western province of Kemranshah in February, destroying a shed but causing no injuries. Unconfirmed rumors of several explosions heard in northern Kermanshah, a critical location in Iran with various missile and military sites, had circulated online the day before.
The news comes as Iran continues to be on edge about its shattered nuclear deal with international powers. Negotiations to revive the agreement in Vienna have been delayed for months.
