China Ready To Stand With Russia To Protect International Law
China is ready to stand with Russia to protect the UN-centric international system and the world order based on international law, Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Monday.
“China, together with Russia, is ready to resolutely uphold the UN-centric international system, stand guard over the world order based on international law and the fundamental norms of international relations based on the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, adhere to true multilateralism, promote multipolarity in the world and the democratization of international relations,” Xi said upon his arrival in Moscow.
Trade Between China, Russia Up By 116% In 10 Years
Bilateral trade between Russia and China topped $190 billion in 2022, increasing by 116% in a spate of 10 years thanks to the joint efforts of the two countries, Chinese President Xi Jinping said in an article published by RIA Novosti and Rossiyskaya Gazeta ahead of a state visit to Russia.
“Thanks to the joint efforts of both sides, China-Russia trade exceeded US$190 billion last year, up by 116 percent from ten years ago. China has been Russia’s largest trading partner for 13 years running. We have seen steady increase in our two-way investment. Our cooperation on major projects in such fields as energy, aviation, space and connectivity is moving forward steadily,” Xi said in the article.
The Chinese leader also noted the high-level of cooperation in scientific and technological innovation, as well as cross-border e-commerce.
“Our cooperation at the sub-national level is also booming. All this has brought tangible benefits to both the Chinese and the Russian peoples and provided unceasing driving force for our respective development and rejuvenation,” the article read.
Xi is set to visit Moscow from March 20-22 to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin, which will become his first foreign trip after he was reelected by the Chinese National People’s Congress as the country’s leader for a third five-year term on March 10.
Putin, Xi To Discuss Chinese Peace Initiative On Ukraine – Kremlin
Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, will surely discuss the Chinese peace initiative on Ukraine during a meeting on Monday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
In February, Beijing has presented its peace initiative plan that including 12 points, including respect to sovereignty of all countries and resumption of direct talks between Moscow and Kiev.
“One way or another, the topics that were touched upon in this regard, of course, will inevitably be touched upon during the exchange of views on Ukraine. Of course, Ukraine will appear on the agenda. Therefore, of course, we can safely assume that they will be touched upon in one way or another, but here, of course, President Putin will give exhaustive explanations – so that President Xi can, as they say, directly hear the Russian side’s vision of the current moment,” Peskov told reporters.
