CLIMATE ACTIVISTS IN BERLIN AND MUNICH GLUE THEMSELVES TO ROADS

In Munich, climate activists of the last generation glued themselves to a street, According to police spokeswoman, that three people had been removed from the street at Karlsplatz (Stachus) in the morning.

According to the information, they were taken to a police station to determine their personal details. The action lasted about an hour, they said. Since traffic was diverted, there were no major disruptions.

“We don’t do this lightly. We are sorry for the disturbance to the people. We know of no other effective means to save us all,” the group said on Twitter.

In the southeastern city of Munich, Last Generation activists glued themselves to a major street near the central train station and blocked traffic at rush hour.

In a statement posted on Twitter, the activists said they will continue their climate protests unless the government takes concrete measures to address the climate change.

“Business as usual would kill us. We are the last generation that can still change this course!” the protesters said.

According to a statement from the group, the demonstrators also included a woman who had been in preventive custody several times for other actions. Munich actually wanted to prevent further adhesive protests with a regulation from the beginning of December. According to a general decree, calling for unannounced adhesive protests in the Bavarian capital is punishable by law until the beginning of January.

Members of the group glued their hands to famous paintings in museums and blocked highways and even runways at airports to attract media attention to the global warming.

The climate activists are heavily criticizing the German government for not taking serious measures to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius (2.7 Fahrenheit), but further investing in fossil fuel infrastructure, endangering the future of humankind.

Their immediate demands include a 100 km/h (62.14 mph) speed limit on German highways, and the introduction of €9 ($9.5) public transport ticket, which would allow unlimited travel and can be used around the country.
