Sat 18 May 2024:
The opposition Labour Party’s lead over Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s Conservative Party has grown to 18 points, according to an opinion poll released on Saturday.
With a national election anticipated later this year, the poll by Opinium Research indicated that Labour would secure 43% of the vote, compared to 25% for the Conservatives. In the previous poll, Labour had a 16-point lead.
Both Sunak and Labour leader Keir Starmer are focusing heavily on economic issues as the election approaches. The poll highlighted that Labour leads in all economic categories, including improving public services and managing the economy.
Opinium conducted an online survey of 2,029 UK adults between May 15 and 17.
Another poll by YouGov for the Times newspaper, released on May 9, showed Labour with a 30-point lead.
The Conservative Party has been in power, either in coalition or alone, since 2010. Their tenure has been marked by significant events, including Brexit and controversies over their handling of the COVID-19 crisis. During this period, the UK has seen five different prime ministers.
