Global death toll from pandemic stands at over 531,000
KIEV (AA) – The number of cases and deaths from the novel coronavirus continued to climb Sunday in Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan and Georgia.
Authorities in Kazakhstan said the country’s confirmed infections surpassed 47,100 with more than 1,450 new cases in the past 24 hours.
More than 15,500 people have recovered from the disease while the death toll was reported at 188.
Ukraine’s Health Ministry said the number of official cases stood at 48,500 with over 820 additions. The number of fatalities from the virus totals 1,249.
More than 21,300 people have recovered from the disease and nearly 7,000 health professionals have contracted the virus.
According to data from the Armenian Health Ministry, the number of confirmed infections rose to 28,606 with over 700 new cases in the past 24 hours.
The country’s death toll stands at 484, while more than 16,100 people have recovered.
Kyrgyzstan’s Health Ministry announced that the number of coronavirus cases had risen by 283 to 7,377 and the death toll was 88. In addition, 237 citizens were evacuated from Turkey.
In Georgia, the number of confirmed cases totals 954, with 15 fatalities reported. Around 4,000 people have been quarantined.
After originating in Wuhan, China last December, COVID-19 has spread to at least 188 countries and regions.
More than 11.3 million cases have been reported worldwide, with recoveries topping 6.11 million, according to figures compiled by US-based Johns Hopkins University. The global death toll currently stands at over 531,000.
