Wed 03 July 2024:

Helen Zille, chairman of the Democratic Alliance (DA) Federal Council, says the African National Congress (ANC) cannot dictate terms since there must be a power-sharing deal in Gauteng, SABC news reported

She was briefing the media on the conclusion of negotiations between the DA and the ANC to form a Government of Provincial Unity.

She says despite progress in negotiations, the DA and the ANC in Gauteng have not yet reached an agreement on forming a government.

Zille says out of the ten provincial Cabinet posts in Gauteng, the ANC wants to give the DA three executive council posts.

“So what we were proposing was five for the ANC, four for us and one for the IFP in relation to the proportionality clause, the inclusivity clause and reflecting the will of the voters clause.”

“That could have been fair. Not quibbling over numbers, but saying there’s some principles that underlie the numbers that have to be respected,” explains Zille
