DOCTORS EXTRACT 40 CM HIGH HAIRBALL FROM STOMACH OF WOMAN

Doctors at the Verdi Cevallos Hospital in the city of Portoviejo, located in the tropical zone of Ecuador, removed a giant ball of hair from the stomach of a 24-year-old woman , in a surgical intervention, which was “successful.”

This was reported by the Hospital on Wednesday on its social media account X, in which it referred to the extraction of a bezoar (a ball of foreign material that is ingested, composed of hair or fiber) “of enormous proportions.”

Pedro Lovato, a general surgery specialist who led the procedure, said that “it was a mass that occupied the entire gastric cavity and could even be identified by touch from the outside.”

“She is a patient with a psycho-emotional disorder, so the definitive diagnosis was obtained through a videoendoscopy performed by the Gastroenterology Service,” added the surgeon.

He explained that due to the ” major obstruction” , which also affected the first part of the intestine, the patient had lost weight significantly, to the point of not being able to eat. “In addition to saving her life, the surgery also prevented other serious stomach injuries,” he said.

The operation lasted 45 minutes and involved two general surgeons, a postgraduate in surgery, an anesthesiologist, an MRI circulating nurse and an instrumentalist.
