DOZENS OF RUSSIAN SERVICEMEN SACKED FOR REFUSING TO FIGHT IN UKRAINE

Fri 27 May 2022:

A Russian court upheld the dismissal of 115 national guardsmen who challenged after refusing to participate in Moscow’s military campaign in Ukraine.

This looks to be the first official evidence of soldiers refusing to participate in Russia’s military incursion in Ukraine, which began on February 24.

The National Guard, a domestic security unit independent from the Russian army, was questioned by a military court in Russia’s southern Kabardino-Balkaria province on Thursday.

It concluded that the defendants “arbitrarily refused to perform an official assignment” and turned down their appeal.

The hearing was held behind closed doors to avoid revealing “military secrets“, the court added.

Citing the court’s press service, the Interfax news agency reported on Thursday that the servicemen refused to carry out an assignment related to Moscow’s “special operation” in Ukraine.
