Sun 27 January 2022:
Elon Musk, the CEO of SpaceX, announced on Saturday that his company’s Starlink satellite internet service had been activated in Ukraine, which is now experiencing a crisis as a result of Russia’s invasion. Mykhailo Fedorov, Ukraine’s Vice Prime Minister, had appealed with Musk to supply satellite-based communications to aid in the resistance against the invasion. “Starlink service is now active in Ukraine,” Musk tweeted in response to Fedorov, adding that “more terminals are en route.”
Tagging Musk, Ukraine’s Vice Prime Minister and Digital Transformation Minister Mykhailo Fedorov on Saturday said: “while you try to colonize Mars — Russia try to occupy Ukraine! While your rockets successfully land from space — Russian rockets attack Ukrainian civil people! We ask you to provide Ukraine with Starlink stations and to address sane Russians to stand,” on Twitter.

Starlink provides satellite internet access coverage to most of the world.
SpaceX, founded by Musk in 2002, plans to establish a network of 12,000 satellites in earth orbit with Starlink satellites. The project is targeted to be completed in 2027.
The company aims to revolutionize space technology, with the ultimate goal of enabling people to live on other planets, according to its website.
Ukraine has seen a “series of significant disruptions of internet service” since Russia launched military operations in the country on Thursday. Starlink operates a constellation of over 2,000 satellites that ease internet access across the planet. The activation of Starlink services would circumvent Russia’s attempts to cut off Ukraine’s internet from the world.
