Tue 01 February 2022:

Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, plans to visit Ukraine on 3 February, TASS reports, citing the office of the Turkish leader.

According to the report, the Turkish President will visit Ukraine to ease tensions in the region.

“The visit of our President to Ukraine is expected on 3 February,” Erdogan’s administration said.

Earlier, the Turkish leader had repeatedly stated that Turkey was ready for mediation efforts and a feasible contribution to peace between Ukraine and Russia.

Last week, Erdogan also stated that “a psychology of war in the region upsets us, as a country that has ties with both sides. Our wish is to bring Mr. Putin and Mr. Zelenskiy together as soon as possible”.

Erdogan also invited Vladimir Putin to Turkey; the invitation was accepted.

While Turkey has made no direct military allegiance with either Kiev or Moscow and has maintained good relations with both, it has supplied Ukraine with armed combat drones and has warned Russia against an invasion.
