Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, Georgia report new cases, fatalities
KIEV
Some Eurasian and Central Asian countries reported new cases and deaths from the novel coronavirus on Monday.
Ukraine’s Health Minister Maksim Stepanov announced 1,464 new infections over the last 24 hours, taking the tally to 92,820.
Over 14,000 tests were carried out by health professionals in the past day, Stepanov said.
A total of 2,089 people died of COVID-19, with 19 additional fatalities.
Some 342 people recovered from the disease over the past 24 hours, taking the number of recoveries to 48,164.
Stepanov also warned that the number of hospitalized patients has increased by three times since May.
Uzbekistan
Uzbekistan’s Health Ministry said the number of cases reached 35,513 in the country with 404 additions over the past day.
The death toll climbed to 234 as four more people lost their lives to the virus.
A total of 30,973 people have recovered so far with 309 more recoveries. The percentage of recovered patients reached 87%, it added.
The country started to ease COVID-19 measures as of Aug. 15.
Kazakhstan
The decision to gradually ease virus measures has entered into force in Kazakhstan as of Monday.
Many public places, including shopping centers, bazaars, beauty parlors, are allowed to operate on the condition of complying with hygiene rules.
However, restrictions will continue on the weekends.
According to the country’s Health Ministry, the number of cases rose to 103,33 with 337 additions over the past 24 hours.
A total of 1,219 people recovered over the last day, taking the tally to 82,777. The death toll reached 1,415, with 18 fatalities.
Kyrgyzstan
The Health Ministry of Kyrgyzstan said the number of infections rose by 135 to reach 41,991. The death toll reached 1,496 with one more fatality.
Restrictions on public gatherings are imposed in the country.
Armenia
Armenia’s Health Ministry announced 38 more coronavirus cases, taking the tally to 41,701.
Six more people died of COVID-19 taking the death toll to 824.
A total of 34,655 people have recovered from the virus in the country so far.
Georgia
Georgia’s Prime Ministry said in a statement that there are 1,382 cases in the country with five more additions over the past day.
The number of recoveries reached 1,092 as four more people recovered over the past 24 hours.
Deaths from the virus stood at 17.
