FINNISH PM SANNA MARIN TAKES A DRUGS TEST AFTER A VIDEO OF HER PARTY CAUSED CONTROVERSY

Following the release of video this week showing her partying with friends, Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin said on Friday that she had undergone a drug test and swore she had never used illegal drugs.

Marin, 36, also stated that her capacity to do her official tasks was unaffected on the Saturday in issue and that she would have left the party if she had been required to work.

This week, video snippets showing Marin partying with well-known Finnish influencers and musicians began circulating on social media and were quickly picked up by many media sources in Finland and beyond.

“In recent days, there have been quite grave public accusations that I was in a space where drugs were used, or that I myself used drugs,” Marin told a news conference.

“I consider these accusations to be very serious and, though I consider the demand for a drug test unjust, for my own legal protection and to clear up any doubts, I have taken a drug test today, the results of which will come in about a week.”

Marin, who became the world’s youngest serving government leader in December 2019, faces requests to take a drug test from both members of her ruling coalition and the opposition when the films surfaced.

Marin, the Social Democrat leader, stated that she had never used drugs and had not witnessed anyone doing so at the party she attended.
