FLY ASYLUM SEEKERS TO RWANDA PLAN ‘COMPLETELY MORAL’ UK’S TRUSS SAYS

News Desk World

Tue 14 June 2022:

Foreign Secretary Liz Truss stated on Tuesday that the first flight of asylum seekers will leave for Rwanda on Tuesday, and that anyone who misses it due to legal proceedings will be placed on a later trip.

On Tuesday morning, the High Court in London will hear the final legal objections to the policy before the first scheduled flight under Britain’s contentious new policy takes place.

Following a slew of legal objections, organizations claim only seven people are scheduled to travel to Rwanda on Tuesday.

“We are expecting to send the flight later today,” she told Sky News. “I can’t say exactly how many people will be on the flight. But the really important thing is that we establish the principle.”

“There will be people on this flight and if they’re not on this flight, they will be on the next flight because we are determined to break the model of the appalling people traffickers.”

The foreign secretary has insisted the government’s policy to fly asylum seekers to Rwanda is “completely moral” after the Church of England’s senior bishops condemned the plan.

Liz Truss told reporters this morning that “our policy is completely legal, it’s completely moral”. The Church of England had said the plan “should shame us as a nation”.

Meanwhile, Home Office sources revealed to the Guardian that there was a risk that the first deportation flight to Rwanda carrying asylum seekers could be cancelled.

Three more people, who are due to be on today’s flight, are expected to challenge the decision in the courts.
