Fri 02 December 2022:
Pele, the Brazilian football legend, has been diagnosed with a respiratory infection but is still in good health, according to a medical report released on Friday On Tuesday, the 82-year-old was admitted towards the Albert Einstein hospital in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
“The medical team diagnosed him with a respiratory infection, which is being treated with antibiotics,” the hospital said in a statement. “He is stable and his health is showing general improvement. [He] will remain in the hospital in the coming days to continue treatment.”
For years, the former star has struggled with health issues, including ongoing cancer treatments, and has withdrawn from public life as his condition deteriorates.
In September 2021, Pele had a tumor removed from his colon. His most recent hospitalization is part of “a reevaluation of the tumor’s chemotherapeutic treatment,” according to a statement from Albert Einstein hospital.
Pele’s daughter, Kely Nascimento, has sought to allay fears about her father’s hospitalization, which occurred as teams completed in the 2022 World Cup, one of football’s most important sporting events.
“Hi my friends. Lots of alarm in the media today concerning my dad’s health,” she wrote in a post on Wednesday to the social media platform Instagram, adding, “There is no emergency or new dire prediction.”
Many people believe that Pele, whose true name is Edson Arantes do Nascimento, is the best football player to ever play the game. He is the only athlete to have helped Brazil win the World Cup three times, in 1958, 1962, and 1970.
Pele thanked supporters and well-wishers for their messages on Thursday. Pele has stayed active on social media in recent years. “It’s always nice to receive positive messages like this. Thanks to Qatar for this tribute, and to everyone who sends me good vibes!” he wrote on Instagram.
