Thu 08 February 2024:
A joint venture between ESPN, FOX, and Warner Bros. Discovery aims to introduce a streaming sports service in the United States.
According to a joint statement made on Tuesday, the streaming platform intends to combine the firms’ portfolios of sports networks, certain direct-to-consumer sports services, and sports licenses that include content from college and major professional sports organizations.
It further stated that the site will feature the FIFA World Cup, PGA TOUR golf, Grand Slam tennis, NFL, NBA, WNBA, MLB, NHL, NASCAR, college sports, the UFC, and more.
“The launch of this new streaming sports service is a significant moment for Disney and ESPN, a major win for sports fans, and an important step forward for the media business,” Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Iger said in the statement.
The new service is scheduled to launch in the fall of 2024 and will be available directly to consumers through a new app.
Pricing will be announced at a later date.
FOX CEO Lachlan Murdoch said the service will bring sports content all in one place.
The head of Warner Bros. Discovery David Zaslav said the platform will provide consumers and sports fans more choice and value.
