A video showing French President Emmanuel Macron on a train journey to Ukraine has gone viral on social media after some users alleged that he was hiding a pouch of cocaine. The short clip sparked a flood of rumours online. A Russian official added fuel to the fire by indirectly accusing Macron and other European leaders of using drugs.
The French President was seen with German opposition leader Friedrich Merz and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on a train to Kyiv. The three leaders entered Ukraine from Poland.
The social media have been flooded with videos, where Macron appeared to discreetly remove a small white pouch from the table. In the video, another white object was seen near Merz, which internet users called a ‘cocaine spoon,’ which is used for nasal insufflation.

In a statement posted on X, the Elysee Palace called the accusations “disinformation” and dismissed the claims as an attempt to undermine European unity.
“When European unity becomes inconvenient, disinformation goes so far as to make a simple tissue look like drugs,” the statement said.
“This fake news is being spread by France’s enemies, both abroad and at home. We must remain vigilant against manipulation,” it added.
Alongside the statement, the presidency also shared a close-up photo of a tissue on the train table with the caption: “This is a tissue for blowing your nose,” and another image of Macron, Merz, and Starmer together with the caption: “This is European unity to build peace.”

According to Turkiye Today, the rumour started after Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova made a comment about the video. On Telegram, she referred to the three leaders as “a Frenchman, an Englishman, and a German,” and alleged that they used cocaine and forgot to remove the evidence before journalists arrived.
Zakharova also blasted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, calling him an “unstable cocaine addict.” She added that a Western diplomat had once told her that drug use amongst European leaders was considered “normal.”
Her comments caused a stir online and internet users started speculating about the possible use of drugs with no official proof.
