Wed 15 December 2021:
Hundreds of dinosaur footprints have been discovered in Poland, some of which are so well preserved that even the scaly skin can be seen, providing insight into a complex ecology 200 million years ago, according to geologists.
The fossilised tracks and bones were discovered in an opencast clay mine in Borkowice, 130 kilometers (80 miles) south of Warsaw, and have been described as a “treasure trove” by the Polish Geological Institute-National Research Institute.

“In the traces left by dinosaurs, you can read their behaviour and habits … we have traces left by dinosaurs running, swimming, resting and sitting,” stated geologist Grzegorz Niedzwiedzki.
Carnivorous dinosaur footprints are often 40cm (15.7 inches) long, with the skin visible in several cases.
“In order for such a state of preservation to be possible, a very special sequence of events had to take place in a short time,” geologist Grzegorz Pienkowski said in a statement.
Several hundred dinosaur tracks have been discovered, representing at least seven species, and geologists expect to find more.
“Right now, we already have a few hundred footprints and bones in our Borkowice collection. However, not it seems that soon, we’ll have several thousands of such samples,” said Pienkowski.
Bone fragments from animals and fish have also been discovered.
