KwaZulu Natal – The International Humanitarian Summit, organised by Ashraful-Aid, is scheduled for October at the Cape Town International Convention Centre. As the first event of its kind in Africa, the summit will primarily focus on addressing critical issues affecting the continent and introducing innovative solutions.

The summit aims to showcase Africa’s potential and highlight the continent’s needs in the humanitarian sector by bringing together local and global organisations, experts, and volunteers.

Sabera Asmal, the KwaZulu-Natal Regional Coordinator for Ashraful-Aid, expressed her enthusiasm for the event, noting that the platform will shine a spotlight on Africa’s humanitarian needs. She emphasised that Africa is often overlooked in international humanitarian efforts due to resource constraints, security concerns, and other factors.

“Most organisations internationally are looking to do things in Africa, but the bulk of their funds, for obvious reasons, are being directed to the Middle East and other parts of the world where there’s great suffering.”

“However, Africa is often sidelined due to a lack of resources, security facilities, etc. Many organisations are not working in Africa, and we’re hoping to showcase that there is such a great need.”

The Summit for the People of Africa

The summit will showcase an outstanding lineup of international speakers, including esteemed humanitarian leaders and experts. These guest speakers will offer valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities within the sector, with a particular focus on Africa.

Asma noted that the topics will span a broad range of critical issues in the humanitarian field, such as financial management, disaster relief strategies, building and sustaining nonprofit organisations, and integrating emerging technologies like artificial intelligence to enhance the effectiveness of humanitarian work.

The discussions at the summit are designed to provide attendees with practical knowledge and tools. These will be instrumental in improving their efforts and making a significant impact on the communities they serve.

“It’s really open to everybody, not specific to NGOs only. Anybody who would like to learn, grow, and hear from these renowned speakers we are bringing in is welcome to attend.”
