Thu 27 July 2023:

The global sea level has been steadily rising over the past three decades, which has raised concerns because of the serious consequences it would have for coastal ecosystems and places around the world.

According to NASA data from this February, two important aspects of global warming are primarily responsible for the observed rise in sea levels: the addition of water from melting ice sheets and glaciers and the expansion of seawater as it warms.

Global sea levels have been steadily rising over the past three decades, according to a thorough analysis by NASA based on satellite observations.

The global average sea level has surged by approximately 98.5 millimeters (3.87 inches) since 1993, it indicated.

Additionally, global average sea surface temperatures reached record highs in June, with the North Atlantic Ocean experiencing exceptionally warm sea surface temperatures and multiple extreme marine heatwaves, according to data released early this month by the European Union’s Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S).

According to C3S analysis, both long-term changes in the ocean and short-term variations in air circulation had an impact on these events.

The statistics showed that in May, the average global sea surface temperature exceeded all prior records, and that this trend persisted into June with even more notable anomalies.
