Mon 14 November 2022:
Google has begun testing advertising-related applications in the Play Store search field over history.
According to 9To5Google, after the update, the search field will display three applications that the user has never interacted with or searched for.
The search history will only appear after the user types a letter. After that, the previous searches will be displayed first and then the autocomplete recommendations.
It is still unclear “whether those applications paid to appear or whether they’re suggestions”, the report said.
Right now, when the user taps the search bar it displays the four most recent searches and also brings up the keyboard.
Earlier, the tech giant had announced to add new features to the Play Store for better listing of apps next year.
Earlier this year, the company presented the updates at its annual developer conference, I/O.
Using the pictures, videos, and descriptions seen immediately in the Apps and Games Home, the tech giant was also rebuilding the Play Store for large screens.
According to Google, the goal of the content-forward strategy was to provide the apps in the store a better representation and assist consumers in choosing which ones to install.
