Hebrew newspaper Haaretz reported that the strict measures taken by the Israeli authorities to reduce the spread of the coronavirus will render life for Israelis in Tel Aviv similar to that of Palestinians trapped in the Gaza Strip.
In his article, Gideon Levy compared the strict measures and restrictions imposed by the Israeli government on the Israelis to curb the spread of the epidemic, with the daily suffering of Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza – a reality which they have been suffering for decades under siege and occupation.
Levy stated: “Israel has for the first time a little taste of the hell that it has been imposing on the Palestinians for decades. The Israelis are moving with amazing speed to experience a reality known to every Palestinian child.” Levy stressed that: “After one or two days, Tel Aviv will look like Jenin, and Israel will look like the Gaza Strip.”
He continued: “For the Palestinians, this is their usual way of life, but in Israel the difference is remarkable. It looks like the end of the world there, and although what Israel is going through will ease the siege on the Palestinians, one can only be surprised by the striking similarity.”
