HEAVY SNOWFALL AND RAIN SWEEP ACROSS UK AS BRITS BRACE FOR MORE TRAVEL DISRUPTION, SCHOOL CLOSURE

The UK continue to hit by widespread travel disruption on Monday amid severe weather conditions with 169 flood warnings in place.

The Environment Agency issued new 146 flood warnings in England, bringing the number of current flood warnings to 166 in England as motorways are flooded and trains are cancelled.

Additionally, another 299 flood alerts are in place in areas where flooding “is possible.”

All lines between Peterborough and Leicester in England are closed while more flooding at Elton and Orston is causing disruption to travel between Nottingham and Grantham.

Railways between Worcester Shrub Hill and Hereford have been flooded following heavy rain, forced to closing some lines.

Travel disruptions, school closures

Due to snowing and flooding, roads are also closed in some parts of Britain with speed restrictions in place.

The M5 motorway is among flooded while the A1 is reportedly suffering from heavy traffic in both directions.

Meanwhile, many schools have been forced to close their gates in some parts of the UK on the first day back after the Christmas breaks.

Snowfall has caused dozens of schools to close on Monday across parts of Lancashire and Yorkshire. Bradford City Council said that there are currently 176 school closures in its area.

Separately, Manchester Airport announced it has reopened runways after they were closed on early Monday morning due to “heavy snow.”

However, it warned that some departures and arrivals may still experience delays.

Amid wide-range of disruption, the country’s Met Office announced that Sunday night was the UK’s coldest night of winter so far as temperature fell to minus 13.3C in Loch Glascarnoch, Scotland.
