Here’s what’s happening in South Africa today:

◼️ Malema wants Cyril Ramaphosa to testify: “We plead that let these names that have been submitted be subjected to consultations. Then we shall be advised. Including the president, the president was mentioned in the committee where the minister said he consulted the president on the disbandment of the PTT (Political Killings Task Team). Why is parliament being used to shield the president from accountability?

◼️ The mafia taking over one of SA’s provinces: However, while these factors have steadily eroded water security, criminals have stepped in to exploit the gaps, turning emergency tanker supply schemes into lucrative rackets. According to Water and Sanitation Minister Pemmy Majodina, these mafias have become a force across municipalities, intimidating contractors, halting projects, and demanding payments to allow work to continue.

◼️ ‘Consent’ in sexual offences cases: This permits an accused to raise their belief in consent as a defence, by alleging they thought the victim was saying “yes”, or was showing they were willing participants in the sexual act through their actions or lack of resistance. It does not require showing that consent was actually given.
