◼️ Ramaphosa calls for the release of South Africans abducted by Israel: President Cyril Ramaphosa has urged the Israeli government to immediately release South Africans and other nationals detained after Israeli naval forces intercepted the Global Sumud Flotilla in international waters off Gaza.

◼️ South Africa now a mafia state: “The classic differentiation between a normal state and a mafia state is where you cannot clearly differentiate between the political and criminal elite,” he said. “In the South African context, there is a long history of evidence, which includes academic research, that this differentiation does not exist.”

◼️ Nathi Mthethwa did not have protection detail at time of death: In a statement, Paris prosecutor Laure Beccuau said Mthethwa had booked a room on the 22nd floor of the Hyatt Regency hotel on the western edge of the French capital. Beccuau said the room’s window had been forced open with scissors that were left at the scene and Mthethwa’s body was found in the hotel’s courtyard shortly after 11am by a security guard.

◼️ Warning to South Africans whose phones have been stolen: Hogan explained that a person’s phone is the key to their bank account. Often, criminals target phones specifically to gain access to these accounts. “People are under the impression that the security on the phone is bulletproof,” Hogan said. They believe that because they have a password or facial recognition on their phone, it is impenetrable.
