Thu 04 December 2025:
Here’s what’s happening in South Africa today:
◼️ US will exclude SA from G20, welcome Poland into the fold: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio says Poland will assume its “rightful place” in the group of the world’s biggest economies. He confirmed that the US would not invite South Africa to participate in the G20 while it led the forum in 2026. The US Secretary of State reiterated US President Donald Trump’s false claims of violent persecution of Afrikaners.

◼️ SA convicts ex-apartheid cops for 1987 killing: Nyoka, a young local activist at the time, was gunned down at his family home near Johannesburg in the early hours of the morning. A 1988 pathology report and court records show he was shot at least 12 times. Forensic findings suggested he was first shot while sitting up in bed, then hit repeatedly after falling back. Police officers involved in the raid were cleared in 1987 after claiming self-defence — a common tactic used during apartheid to shield security forces from accountability for political killings.

◼️ ANC sued for R20m over unpaid bills: The ANC is facing mounting legal and financial pressure after allegedly failing to settle more than R20 million for election campaign services and ignoring court deadlines, triggering an application for a default judgment against the party.

◼️ Legal fight brewing over rooftop solar: Outa previously recommended that Eskom Direct households refrain from registering their systems until Eskom revised the Ecsa registration. Another civil society organisation, Afriforum, recommended the same. It is also concerned that Eskom could use SSEG lists to implement punitive tariffs against people who self-generate electricity in the future.

◼️ Finger-lickin’ filthy: The footage, captured on Sunday night, depicts a scene so shocking that it turned what was meant to be a festive meal into an unappetising disappointment. The man, who chose to remain anonymous, explained that he and his wife decided to stop by KFC after attending the Festive Lights Switch-On in the city.
