◼️ Court to decide on bringing new evidence in “DJ Warras” murder case: A decision on whether the CCTV footage, capturing the murder of Warrick Stock popularly known as DJ Warras should be brought to court will be made on Thursday afternoon. This, as the man accused of orchestrating Stock’s murder continues his bid for bail in the Johannesburg magistrates’ court.

◼️ Youth drinking crisis | calls to raise legal alcohol age to 21-23: According to the Foundation for Alcohol Related Research, about six million South Africans are affected by foetal alcohol syndrome, while the World Health Organization ranked South Africa among the countries with the highest per capita alcohol consumption globally. “Teenagers are debuting sexually from as young as 10 years old, and there is a high rate of teenage childbirths. Allowing young mothers to continue drinking only worsens the problem.”

◼️ Social Development responds to claims R370 SRD grant is ending: A statement was issued by the department on Wednesday after the circulation of social media posts claiming the Covid-19 Social Relief of Distress grants would be coming to an end. Grant recipients and members of the public were advised that official information was published via the DSD WhatsApp channel, the DSD website, Sassa platforms and verified government social media pages.

◼️ Warning about two popular car models in SA: “The results clearly demonstrate serious and unacceptable shortcomings in the level of safety provided to adults in the version sold across African markets, including South Africa.” It highlighted that the Grand i10, which is manufactured in India, offers only basic safety equipment and doesn’t come with side body or head protection as standard.
