Here’s what’s happening in South Africa today:
◼️ South Africa doesn’t need more political parties, it needs more entrepreneurs: In reality, it is a symptom of a deeper malaise — a society where too many people, often unemployed and lacking in economic opportunity, turn to politics not out of ideological conviction or a desire to serve, but as a means of personal survival and upward mobility. The proliferation of political parties is not a sign of a healthy democracy. https://iol.co.za/capeargus/news/2025-10-07-south-africa-doesnt-need-more-political-parties-it-needs-more-entrepreneurs/

◼️ Mkhwanazi faces questions on personal, family safety: “Safety of my family is the responsibility of men and women in blue, who don’t have money to hire bodyguards, so safety is only guaranteed by men and women in blue. Their safety and vulnerability apply to the rest of the family; no special provisions for them.”

◼️ Not so fast with that R54bn settlement, Eskom and Nersa: Eskom and the energy regulator Nersa’s plan to have a R54 billion settlement made an order of the high court on 7 October had to change after civil rights group AfriForum filed an application to intervene. The settlement, reached behind closed doors in August, followed Eskom’s challenge to Nersa’s determination of its tariffs for the current and next two financial years on judicial review, accusing Nersa of making mistakes.
