Here’s what’s happening in South Africa today:
◼️ How to spot the India-based fake news flooding SA: South Africans are being hit by a relentless wave of professionally packaged but entirely fabricated news stories circulating on WhatsApp, Facebook and cloned websites. As exposed in News24’s recent investigation into an Indian disinformation network, these scams, many generated from India by It Fames, rely on cheap Al tools, hijacked domains, and mass distribution tactics to push everything from fake government rebates to imaginary grant increases.

◼️ Winds of change surrounding BEE: “If you want to enter the South African economy, you have to pay a steep fee because of the empowerment policies,” he said. “The consequence is that many projects which would have been viable become unviable and investors go to other countries.” He highlighted ANC spokesperson Mahlengi Bhengu-Motsiri’s comments, where she said companies can take their money elsewhere if they don’t like BEE.

◼️ Rapist teachers on the rise in SA schools: Education experts and gender-based violence activists have blamed the authorities for failing to address the statutory rape cases taking place in schools throughout the country. Education Labour Relations Council did not specify how many cases are pending or have not yet been addressed. The cases of statutory rape are on the rise.

◼️ Five jaw-dropping revelations made by Brown Mogotsi: Among the more controversial allegations made by Mogotsi is that KwaZulu‑Natal Police Commissioner Lt‑Gen Mkhwanazi and Zulu King Misuzulu ka Zwelithini were recruited by the United States Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). Mogotsi said he obtained information from one of his sources that Misuzulu and Mkhwanazi were recruited by and actively worked for the CIA. https://iol.co.za/news/south-africa/2025-11-19-five-jaw-dropping-revelations-made-by-brown-mogotsi-at-the-madalanga-commission/

◼️ Say farewell to spam calls: Trade and industry minister Parks Tau first proposed amending the Consumer Protection Act to enable a national opt-out register for South Africans frustrated with unsolicited marketing calls in December 2024. According to the acting commissioner at the National Consumer Commission (NCC), Hardin Ratshisusu, the registry will give the NCC full sight of all direct marketers in South Africa.
