IRAN INTELLIGENCE WARNS OF ATTEMPTS TO TARGET SUPREME LEADER KHAMENEI

Mon 24 November 2025:

Iran’s Intelligence Minister has warned of alleged American and Israeli attempts to target Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei or provoke internal unrest, according to reports carried by local media.

Esmail Khatib, quoted by the Iranian Students’ News Agency (ISNA), said the Supreme Leader represents “the pillar” of the Iranian state, adding: “This is why the enemies seek to target him and carry out actions that threaten this axis of unity.”

Khatib did not specify whether his remarks referred to a particular plot or incident. Iranian officials frequently accuse the United States and Israel of orchestrating conspiracies against the country.

During the ongoing regional conflict, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told AC News that assassinating Khamenei “would not fuel the conflict, but would end it.” US President Donald Trump also said Khamenei was an “easy target,” though he added that Washington “will not kill him, at least for the time being.”

Experts like Israeli officials and analysts from the Washington Institute (Holly Dagres) agree Israel has the capability—Mossad’s track record includes assassinating IRGC commanders and nuclear scientists inside Iran.

Recent 2025 reports reveal Israel had operational windows during strikes on Iranian sites, even targeting a refueling plane near Mashhad as a direct warning.

However, Khamenei’s tightened security (bunker hideouts, layered bodyguards) and his age (86) make it a high-stakes gamble. U.S. President Trump vetoed at least one plan to avoid escalation, prioritizing nuclear talks.

Netanyahu claims it could “end the conflict” by toppling the regime.

But most experts disagree: Iran’s constitution ensures swift succession via the Assembly of Experts, likely installing a hardliner like Mojtaba Khamenei.

Asia Times calls it a “recipe for chaos,” sparking proxy wars (Hezbollah, Houthis) and eroding Israel’s global legitimacy as “state terrorism.”

Reddit geopolitics forums and Quora analysts note no regime collapse—Khamenei’s death might even rally hardliners, not Iranians uprising.
