IRAN SAYS ‘SMALL DRONES’ ATTACKED ITS MILITARY SITE (VIDEO)

Middle East World

Sun 29 January 2023:

Reports and videos from Iran speak of multiple explosions and a fire at an ammunition factory in the Iranian city of Esfahan shortly after midnight local time. Following multiple reports by eyewitnesses after midnight, January 29, that an ammunition factory in Esfahan was hit by explosions and fire, Iran’s defense ministry announced that small drones attacked the complex, and called the attack “unsuccessful.” It claimed all the drones were shot down, without saying if the attack came from inside the country or from outside.

Emergency vehicles and fire trucks were shown at the plant, in central Isfahaan province. It comes amid tensions over Iran’s nuclear programme, as well as the supply of Shaahed drones to Russia, that have been used in the war against Ukraine.

Some reports said several facilities were hit around Iran within a period of a few hours. Iran’s IRNA news agency reported a fire at an oil refinery in the northern city of Tabreez.

According to Iran’s defence ministry the drone attack was “unsuccessful”, with one drone shot down by air defence, and two blowing up, when they were “caught in defence traps”.

There have been a number of explosions and fires around Iranian military, nuclear and industrial facilities in the past few years.

Israel has long threatened military action against Iran, if indirect talks between Washington and Tehran, fail to salvage a 2015 nuclear pact. Israel says Iran is seeking to develop nuclear weapons. Tehran denies this.
