IRAN WARNS IT WOULD ATTACK US, ISRAELI ‘INTERESTS’ AFTER NETANYAHU THREATS

Middle East World

Sun 04 May 2025:

Iranian Defence Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh says Tehran will strike back if the US or Israel attack his country.

“If this war is initiated by the US or the Zionist regime [Israel], Iran will target their interests, bases and forces – wherever they may be and whenever deemed necessary,” Nasirzadeh told Iranian state TV.

“The countries in the region are our brothers, but America’s bases are our targets,” he added.

Netanyahu earlier warned that Israel will respond to “Iranian terror masters” after Yemen’s Houthi group launched a missile that struck a road at Ben Gurion Airport outside Tel Aviv.

“Attacks by the Houthis emanate from Iran,” Netanyahu said.

PM Netanyahu says Israel will respond to ‘Iranian terror masters’

The Israeli prime minister says the response will take place “at a time and place of our choosing”.

The statement on X comes after a missile fired by Yemen’s Houthi rebels landed near Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport, the country’s main international travel gateway.

“Attacks by the Houthis emanate from Iran,” Benjamin Netanyahu said, describing Iran’s leaders as Houthi “terror masters”.

Houthi missiles disrupt more than 40 flights at Ben Gurion Airport

A data analysis conducted by Al Jazeera’s fact-checking agency Sanad shows more than 40 cases of disrupted landings for international flights at Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv because of the Houthi missile strikes.

The disruptions tracked were ones occurring since Israel’s renewed escalation of war on Gaza beginning in late March. The analysis relied on aviation data provided by the specialised flight tracking website Flight Radar.

Sanad cross-referenced the timing of Houthi missile strikes with the activation times of alarm sirens at Ben Gurion Airport. It then analysed aviation records to determine the exact number of flight delays caused by the incidents.

PM Netanyahu meets ministers on new phase of Gaza war

Israel’s leader says he’s convening the security cabinet to discuss “the next stage” of the war in Gaza.

Israeli officials will discuss the expansion of the Gaza attack and a possible resumption of aid into the besieged enclave, two unnamed government officials told Reuters news agency.

Already in control of almost one-third of Gaza’s territory, Israel has faced growing international pressure to lift its complete aid blockade imposed in March after it broke the ceasefire with Hamas that halted fighting for two months.
