Mon 26 January 2026:

Israel’s Channel 14 reported that the United States and Israel have reached an understanding to carry out fast and powerful strikes against Iran, if needed.

The commander of the US Central Command (CENTCOM), Brad Cooper, held a meeting on Sunday with senior officials from the Israeli military in Tel Aviv. The meeting discussed several issues, including the situation with Iran.

On Sunday evening, Channel 14 published new details for the first time about the late-night meeting. According to the report, those present shared similar views and agreed to continue close cooperation between the two militaries.

During the meeting, US officials said that full readiness regarding Iran requires time and preparation. However, they stressed that the United States is always ready to take specific action.

Speaking about the possibility of a US attack on Iran, the commander said that US thinking is based on carrying out a fast, sudden and clean operation, according to the Palestinian Ma’an News Agency.

In addition, US officials believe that changing the current regime is a key necessity. If an attack were to take place, it is expected to focus on those responsible for harming civilians and protesters.

Separately, the commander of US Central Command confirmed that the United States is committed to protecting its allies in the Middle East, including Israel, and will not allow them to be harmed, according to the Israeli channel.

USS Abraham Lincoln enters CENTCOM waters – Fox News

The USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier strike group has entered US Central Command waters in the Indian Ocean but is not yet on station for any possible future strikes against Iran, Fox News correspondent Jennifer Griffin cited a senior US official as saying.

Trump said on Thursday that a US “armada” is heading towards the Gulf region with Iran being its focus.

US officials said an aircraft carrier strike group and other assets are to arrive in the Middle East in the coming days.

“We’re watching Iran. We have a big force going towards Iran,” Trump said.

“And maybe we won’t have to use it. … We have a lot of ships going that direction. Just in case, we have a big flotilla going in that direction, and we’ll see what happens,” he added.

Iran protest crackdown toll may top 20,000, UN rapporteur says

The number of civilians killed in Iran’s crackdown on protests may be more than 20,000, the UN special rapporteur on human rights in Iran said, citing reports from doctors inside the country, Bloomberg reported.

Mai Sato said earlier this week that civilian deaths were estimated at 5,000 or more, adding that medical reports suggested the toll could be far higher, at about 20,000 or more.

The US-based Human Rights Activist News Agency (HRANA) said it has verified 4,902 deaths since unrest erupted in late December and is reviewing a further 9,387 suspected fatalities, while more than 26,000 people have been arrested, according to a statement on its website.

Iran’s National Security Council on Wednesday issued its first official toll, reporting 3,117 deaths, including 2,427 described as “innocent,” among them members of the security forces, without providing a civilian breakdown.
