ISRAEL CONSIDERS PLAN TO EMPTY NORTHERN GAZA OF PALESTINIANS

During a closed meeting of the Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Defence Committee yesterday, Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu revealed that his government is considering the so-called “Generals’ Plan.”

He stated: “This is one of the plans under consideration, though there are others. We are committed to dismantling Hamas’ civil control.”

Developed by retired officers from the “Commanders and Reservists Forum”, the plan is purportedly aimed at “defeating Hamas.”

Netanyahu clarified that “military rule [in Gaza] is not the goal. It is a means, not an end. We do not seek to control or annex the area. We will not annex Gaza.”

“I believe the advantages of the Palestinian Authority outweigh its disadvantages. The Authority should not have control over Gaza, but it is also wrong to work towards its collapse in the West Bank,” he added.

The Generals’ Plan, published earlier this month, argues that the Israeli military’s current operations in Gaza are ineffective and consists of two phases, beginning with the displacement of the remaining residents of northern Gaza and the declaration of the area as a “closed military zone”.

The plan was initiated by former head of operations, retired General Giora Eiland, who is described in Israel as a “strategist” of the Gaza war and is among those consulting with Netanyahu during t Israel’s genocidal campaign.

The proposal asserts that “as long as Hamas controls humanitarian aid, it cannot be defeated.” It calls for the area north of the Netzarim axis, which separates southern Gaza from the north, to be transformed into a “closed military zone,” forcing an estimated 300,000 Palestinians currently in northern Gaza to leave within a week.

Following this, the Israeli occupation army would impose a complete blockade on northern Gaza, claiming that such a siege would leave Palestinian fighters with the option but to “surrender or die,” according to the plan.

The authors of the plan contend that it “complies with international law, as it allows residents to evacuate the conflict zone before the siege is enforced.”

“We have to tell the residents of north Gaza that they have one week to evacuate the territory, which then becomes a military zone; [a zone] in which every figure is a target and, most importantly, no supplies enter this territory. A siege is not only an effective military tactic; it is also compliant with international law,” Eiland explained last week, according to the Times of Israel.
