Sun 03 November 2024:
A suspected leak of classified Gaza documents involving an aide to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has jolted Israeli politics and outraged the families of captives held by Hamas who have been pushing for a deal to get their loved ones home.
Details of the case have been trickling out only slowly because of a gag order. But a court ruling partially lifting the order has provided an initial glimpse of the case, which the court said compromised security sources and may have harmed Israel’s war effort.
On Friday, the magistrates’ court confirmed a number of suspects had been arrested as part of the probe into a suspected “security breach caused by the illegal provision of classified information”.
Netanyahu has denied any wrongdoing by his office staffers, and said in a statement on Saturday that he was only made aware of the leaked document by the media.

Major security breach
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu found himself surrounded by a scandal after classified documents were leaked from his office. The details of the incident, known as “the security affair”, had been censored, but the gag order imposed on it has been partially lifted.
Former member of the Israeli War Council Benny Gantz and opposition leader Yair Lapid hinted in statements they issued that Netanyahu bears responsibility for everything that happens with his staff and office. Experts linked this to statements by some sources that Netanyahu is planning to sacrifice some of his advisors as “scapegoats” and hold them responsible for evading the matter, putting them in the line of fire of Israeli officials.
Netanyahu quickly responded, pointing the finger at military censorship, claiming that it prevented the revelation of details from tarnishing the reputation of his office, stressing that his staff did not leak any recordings or confidential information.
Netanyahu’s spokesperson Omer Dostri is implicated in a major security breach after leaking footage following Israel’s attack on Iran. According to The Jerusalem Post, he revealed a recording containing classified information from the Kirya military headquarters in Tel Aviv, which he shared without permission.
